Last Day

Today was the last day of school for the Bigs.  This means it was the last day for Holland and I to spend the day together.  It felt like the end of an era, and it was.  After this summer, all of my children will be in school.  What?!?  Time is so funny.  So fast and so slow all at once.  

Today, for our last day of this era, we walked in a bubble parade, ate multiple popsicles and climbed rocks together.  A good day.

Tomorrow I send my first born to kindergarten. He is so excited. So ready. He is 6 years old after all; there is no more putting this off. It is time for him to move on to life's next adventure. Ice Capades

 Sunday, after preparing Super-bowl snacks containing way too much Velveeta, cream cheese and mayo, while the littlest was sleeping and before we headed over to Grandma's to watch the game, I took the Bigs on a new adventure- ice skating!  There are several rinks in our town that rent skates for super cheap.  It has been on my "must do" list this winter. When I walked out the door, keys in hand, ready to drive the 8 blocks to the rink, the kids said "NO! We want to walk!"  "It's too far," I said.  You'll decide you don't want to walk home."  "NOOOO!  We want to walk!" said the Bigs.  Then I thought to myself:  " What's the MATTER with you?  Isn't this EXACTLY the kind of afternoon you were hoping for?? A Beautiful Crescendo

My little Holland, You are going to kindergarten tomorrow.   When we had to decide if we wanted to add to our family of four, the answer for me was always yes.  I knew that you were out there, and I just had to bring you into our lives.  I will never say you made it easier, but I will always say you made it better.   You were the crescendo to the twilight of my years parenting young children.  Your childhood has been a gift to me as a mother.  You let me experience it all over again- birth, nursing, exhaustion, frustration, joy, laughter and wonder.  You are so funny (your faces, your expressions, the way you dance).  You are so sweet.
