A Belated Birthday Post

We celebrated two birthdays in our family this summer.  Fisher turned 9 and Claire turned 7; both in June.  I feel badly I am so behind with my posting of our summer, and wanted to make sure to document these important events

Birthday #1:  Fisher turns 9
 Fisher at 9:
Weight: ~69 pounds
Height:  ~53 inches
Favorite things to do:  Play video games (Minecraft is his new fave), read Harry Potter, draw monsters, play with his friends, participating in team sports
Talents:  He is proving to be a talented young pianist, and loves to sing.  He is very bright in math.
Gifts:  He is naturally kind and empathetic.  He loves nature and animals and is very tender-hearted concerning them.
Foods:  SPICY things.  He likes to add hot sauce to his meat and eggs.  He loves all fruit and sweets. He is passionate about seafood.
Birthday Meal:  Coconut shrimp, sauteed spinach and mushrooms, fruit

For Fisher's friend party, we had like 10 boys over for supper and field games in the middle school field next to our house.  Man, was it LOUD!  We served baby tacos and watermelon (both a hit) and felt like a tornado had struck us.  What a whirlwind of activity having 10 8 and 9 year old boys in your home.  It was a fun evening, but I think it might be the last of our large friend birthdays for Fisher.  Next year, I'd like to have 2-3 boys over for a movie and pizza or something... we'll see what Fisher thinks.

The whole crew with the LEGO cake

To make Fisher's LEGO cake, I baked 2 9x13 cakes and then cut them into 3rds.  Then I cut some of the 3rds in half and then a couple of those in half.  I stacked them on top and then used large marshmallows (cut in half) for the knobs. I was very doubtful that I was going to pull this cake off, but in the end, I was very pleased with the results.

Birthday #2:  Claire turns 7

I promised her a pedicure on her birthday
Claire at 7:
Weight:~55 pounds
Height:  48 inches (yay!  She gets to go on the water slides at the pool!)
Favorite things to do:  Play school with her friends (and sometimes sister), going shopping or errand running, spend one-on-one time with her parents.
Talents:  She is athletic and graceful and performed beautifully in her ballet recital this year.  She can outrun her brother :), She is very studious.
Gifts:  She is very sensitive.  She is very observant of the world around her and notices any little change in anything.  She always knows where things are around the house
Foods:  Chili, tacos, cream cheese, cheese, chips
Birthday meal:  Fried Chicken, Frogeye salad, baked beans, potato salad

Poor Claire's friend birthday party was postponed a few weeks, as the first date only produced 1 eligible party guest!  The next week we managed 4 friends available on a Summer Saturday, and it turned out to be the perfect number for a wonderful girly party in the park.
The girls are a little soggy after a game of "drip-drip-drop"

Claire's triple-layer dolphin cake.  The only thing I did was bake the cake and apply the white icing.  Claire's Daddy took over after that.  I was so happy with how it turned out!

Beautiful Claire.
