The Day She Turned SIX

Image
Last night Claire went to sleep a five-year-old...  and woke up SIX.  What??? It seems like yesterday I was holding this little bundle... But now she's SIX and running a daycare center out of her room.  It doesn't pay well, but it really keeps her occupied. We weren't able to have a big celebration today, as her big brother was at camp all day and night and we couldn't party without him. We did have a great day though.  A double coffee/play-date for Mommy and Claire was followed by "exercise class" on the lawn (a favorite role-playing activity) and then mac and cheese for lunch.  Her bestest neighbor friend Katherine came over and they watched "Enchanted" and then played babies all afternoon.  After supper, we took her to GET HER EARS PIERCED!  She blew me away.  I really thought she might back out at the last minute (because wouldn't most 6 year old be freaked out by having a sharp object shoved through thier

Today... was a good day!  My aunt and uncle came by on their way out West for a 7am breakfast of Southwestern Sausage Quiche  and Sour Cherry Breakfast cake.  When our company left it was only 8am and we were dressed and ready for  a quick bike ride on our city's bike trail system.  Next we went to "tot lot" and made macaroni necklaces, and then had lunch with friends.  Tonight we enjoyed watching Fisher's last baseball game and now we are watcing Mad Men.  A good day.  Sour Cherry Breakfast Cake-  I adapted  this  recipe to create my own version with some sour cherries I had picked and frozen, instead of blueberries.  It turned out absolutely perfect (the picture doesn't do it justice).  I would really recommend this recipe with any kind of berry.  Serves 9 ½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature 1cup sugar + 1 Tbsp sugar for sprinkling on top 1 egg, room temperature 1 tsp. vanilla 1tsp almond extract 2 cups flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1/

In The Garden...

Image
I have been so excited about my garden this year.  I bought this book to help me plan it this winter and found it so very comforting to read when the world was still frozen and brown. I planted my garden the 2nd week of May and so far, it seem so be doing very well.  Every morning, one of the first things on my list is to check on my plants.  Who has a new blossom?  Who got dug up by the dog?  Are there FINALLY signs of one of the blossoms turning into a cucumber or a tomato or a zuchinni?  Right now it seems like we are in a waiting stage of growth.  Big things must be happening within, but there are no signs of fruit quite yet.  Just the blossoms giving me the promise of sweet things to come... kind of deep, huh?  :) Here's a little garden tour.. Holland is always very eager to help me water the plants My pots- Itallian Basil, lettuce, peppermint and broccoli.  Something's been eatin my broccoli- I don't think anything will come of it.  This year I tr

Claire-Bear's Book

Claire Bear has written a very informative book on life as a "girl."  I hope you all find it as illuminating as I did ;)  We may need to have a little chat about what exactly a "girl's life" is entails... "A Girl's Life"  by Claire "At Target there is a bracelet and necklace kit." The End.

Eight

Eight Years Old!  Every year I can't believe how OLD my oldest baby is getting to be.  We celebrated in lots of fun, yet simple ways, which I am finding are the best ways to celebrate most anything in life. The morning of Fisher's birthday we headed to the Outdoor Campus for a hike.  It is a big favorite of ours- I am SO thankful for the opportunities we have to go and experience nature together in this place.  Fisher has been attending classes here since he was 3 and later in the week was able to be part of a FREE adventure camp where he shot a bb gun, cooked over coals, went fishing and canning, etc. FISHER FACTS: AGE 8 Favorite Color: Yellow Favorite Toy:  BeyBlades, DS/Wii games, science experiment kits Favorite Food:  Spicy foods (buffalo wings, andouille sausage, hot sauce, etc). New Talent:  He loves to sing and does it often and proudly at the top of his lungs.  He thinks he's really good and will not be shy to tell others that.  I'm still not su
