We have a SEVEN Year Old!

Uggg. My baby is 7!  Holy Cow that is OLD!  How did this happen- I just don't get it.

Fisher at 7:
His favorite color is yellow- it had been black for years.
He loves to play video games, but is awesome about respecting the time limits we have in place- even if he isn't happy about them.
If he can't play video games, he wants to be read to.  This year we've read lots of chapter books.  Our favorites have been "The Wind and the Willows," all 7 "Chronicles of Narnia," and we are just finishing up "The Secret Garden."  I highly recommend all of these books- Lance and I loved all of them and Fisher was captivated by them all.
He wants to grow his hair out like his cousin Jack
His favorite food is shrimp- he will even eat them cold.
He also loves high-quality beef-jerky (which we bought him as one of his birthday presents)
He still wants to cuddle with his Mommy every night.  His Mommy loves this more than words can say.

Ok, so we had a party for Fisher yesterday and it was a huge success.  Every year prior to this we have had his party at a park and played outside games.  This year, we felt like we needed to do something a bit more structured, so we looked into having a special "class" at The Outdoor Campus.  We have been going to The Outdoor Campus since Fisher was 3 years old for special nature-themed classes and activities.  We also sometimes go for short hikes as a family there and we had a great time playing in the snow and in their snow caves this winter.  Anyway, we arranged for their staff to take Fisher and his friends fishing for an hour, and then we would head over to the nearby park for cake and playtime.

The Theme:  So you would think that the theme would be "Fishing."  Nope.  "Mad Scientist."  Fisher really wanted a Mad Scientist theme with a test tube cake.  So that's what we did.

The Cake:  Test Tube Cake.  I found some great pictures online and this one seemed really do-able and looked cool too.  When I told Fisher about my plans for the cake he said "Wow!  I think everyone will be impressed!"
It was sculpted out of two bundt cakes stacked on top of each other.  We cut a 1.5 inch PVC pipe and stuck it through the middle of the cake.  We had to seal one end of the pipe so that it would hold liquid and we covered the pipe with tin foil so that frosting would stick to it.
My husband is better with detail work, so I bake the cake and he frosts it.

Finished- just need the dry ice for the final effect.

The boys received some instruction prior to going outside to fish

Then they got to practice casting with gummy worms and plastic fish!

There's my Fisherman...

Fishing from the dock

I made Potion-Punch from green Kool-Aide and Sprite and added dry ice

This is Fisher's best friend and cousin, Gus.  Gus is only 13 days older than Fisher and is the closest thing to a brother he has- what a blessing!

We had a great time at the party- Fisher and his friends from school were so happy to see each other after being apart for a couple weeks.  Happy Birthday Fisher Edwin!
