Making Homemade Play-Doh

Today, we played with Play-Doh.

We made snowmen, but found that our play-doh had grown old and crusty...

So we Decided to Make more.

Cooked Play-Doh

Ingredients
3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups salt
3 tbsps cooking oil
6 tsps cream of tartar
3 cups water
few drops of food coloring (optional)

Cooked Play Doh Recipe Instructions
Mix all ingredients together in a large pot. Cooke over a moderate heat, stirring frequently, until al the mixture leaves the sides of the pot and forms a ball. Turn out onto a work surface and knead.
This playdough will keep indefinitely if stored in a covered container (or you can use ziplock bags).

This is how it should look when it is cooked.

Here's the finished product... we had fun kneading in the different colors.
Making play-doh is a quick, easy project to do with toddlers and preschoolers, and it is SOOO much cheaper and better- quality than the stuff you buy in the store.  It lasts forever... well almost forever. When it does go crusty on you, just grab your favorite preschooler and make more!

I also made some yummy jambalaya for supper tonight.  I had every intention on documenting the preparation and service of this scrumptious dish, but we were all so hungry that it was gobbled up and leftovers put away before I remembered to photograph it for you all.

But no fear, it was actually a recipe from my cousin's blog... Here's the link! Sausage Jambalaya
I followed the recipe exactly, but I also added a little leftover chopped rotisserie chicken that I had in the freezer.  Yum!

  1. Yay for homemade Play-doh! It sounds like it was a stress-free experience for you. It is worth the extra effort though, isn't it.
